this weekend i made homemade applesauce!  it is totally worth having to peel, core, and slice all of the apples because it tastes so much better than store bought apple sauce.

enjoy!

whole wheat pita bread

on friday i had a random craving for hummus.  so i picked up a whole lot of hummus on my way home.  the only problem is the store that i got it from only gave me 1 pita bread for all of my hummus.  uh oh.  i figured this would be the perfect time to try to make pita bread.  on saturday after work (yes i had to work this weekend), i came home and made whole wheat pita bread.

they didn’t puff up as much as i thought they would, but i think this is because i used whole wheat flour which is a bit heavier than regular flour.  regardless, they tasted great and were perfect with hummus.  yummy!

apple pie

last weekend, my boyfriend and i went apple picking.  it was fun but what we were really excited about was coming back and making apple pie.  i was actually never a big fan of apple pie until i had my boyfriend’s mom’s apple pie.  it was absolutely heavenly.  it is one of our most requested dishes when we go up to maine, but since we can’t go up all the time, i learned how to make our own apple pie.

i didn’t have a premade pie crust in the freezer so i tried to make my own.  it turned out okay, but make sure not to make pie crust in a hot kitchen.  eeek.  next time hopefully it’ll turn out better.  also, sadly our oven freaks out sometimes and it burnt the top but amazingly the crumb topping didn’t taste burnt at all.  yay!  all in all, our apple pie was delicious.  oh, and for just a bit more decadence try it with a little fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
